VOLUNTEERS

The life you change may be your own

Special Olympics would not exist today without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of people just like you - thousands of individuals who choose to take a little time from busy schedules to make the world a better place. Volunteers are an important part of a global movement that provides athletes with intellectual disabilities the excitement, joy and personal fulfillment associated with sport training and competition.

Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics, and we need you!  Special Olympics Arizona is looking for anyone wanting to help make a difference in the lives of our athletes, whether you're a corporation looking for an employee team-building exercise, a social or religious group looking to have a greater involvement in your community, or a family or individual who wants to make a difference in the world.   Volunteering for Special Olympics Arizona can create a lifetime of friendships and rewards of immeasurable value, both for you and the athletes inspired by your time and dedication.

There are two levels of Special Olympics Arizona Volunteers - which one is right for you?

  • Event Volunteers are people who assist in event planning and/or participate at SOAZ events, but are not necessarily in contact with the athletes on a regular basis.  This includes: Day of Event Volunteers, Office Volunteers and Fundraising Events Volunteers.

  • Class A Volunteers have daily interaction with athletes and are in a position of authority, supervision and trust.  These types of volunteers include: Coaches, Chaperones, Unified Partners, Games Management Team Members, Heads of Delegations and Area Directors.

Whether you are coaching an athlete or helping with paperwork, handing out awards or celebrating a victory, timing a runner or escorting them onto the track-you are touching the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and creating positive change in the world.  Whether you have a little time to commit or a lot, there is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you!
